Boss Buddy Catalog Copy & Layout
The Boss Buddy spring-loaded impact press is the core of our unit designed to produce legends or tags. The standard configuration uses steel type characters to emboss foil tape or tags to dramatically reduce the production time. Instead of embossing a single character at a time, The Boss Buddy embosses the entire legend in one stroke of the press. It's ideal for creating date codes, heat numbers, lot or batch id, order numbers and other traceable identification in embossed pattern labels in foundries and for ingots and the material tags in mills.
The Boss Buddy provides better efficiency & definition for embossing labels and tags. Ideally suited for traceability requirements with:

The Best Solution for Pattern Labels
How it Works: Making Foundary Pattern Labels
The foundation of the system is the Boss Buddy Manual 3-1/4 ton impact press which has column height of 26" and a table that is approximately 6.50" (165mm) square on which the type chase or tag holder is located. This manually operated unit weighs 75 lbs and you should expect many years of production. Adhesive backed foil label stock are embossed then cut to the proper size before applying to the patterns. One stroke of the press creates a multiple character legend. 5-mil aluminum tape foil is fed using simple manual knobs to guide it from the foil roll over the type chase fixture to the opposite side where the foil is cut-off at the optimum desired length. |
Foundary Pattern Labels Key features include:
|
The system, is available with your choice of three type chase holders that match the standard tape options. Each chase has a 2.25” wide pocket to accommodate varying character heights that corresponds with the tape width.
The type chase can receive a range of character sizes:
1/8” (0.125"), 3/16" (0.1875"), 1/4" (0.125"), 5/16" (0.3125"), 3/8" (0.375"), 7/16" (0.4375"), 1/2" (0.500") , 5/8" (0.625") and 3/4” (0.750"). |
BOSS BUDDY PLUS AUTOMATED PACKAGE
The Boss Buddy+ is same proven process of the Manual Boss Buddy but is a semi-automatic arrangement for high volume label requirements. It can repeat legends improving cycle time in an almost hands-off workstation. The Boss Buddy+ semi automatic 3-3/4 ton impact press which has column height of 28.6" and a table that is approximately 6.25" (160mm) square on which the type chase or tag holder is located. This semi automatic unit weighs 130 lbs . This pneumatic press can be operated automatically using your choice of Safeball Controls, Renco Controls or Ross Controls and includes safety fencing. The operator manually sets the messages to be embossed into foil tape. Through PLC programming the process is automated for the number of messages to make, message length and spacing between labels. It can repeat legends improving cycle time. The only manual operated component is setting the type. The Boss Buddy+ system also can be equipped with:

Note: To order a specific alphanumeric character or symbol, just add the specific character you require after the part number. As an example. To order a 1/8 letter "A" you would use "ETC-0125A"
Foil Tape Rolls
The aluminum and stainless steel tape tape has a rugged adhesive backing that creates cast-in impressions with more definition and better legibility for the life of the casting. The flexibility of the tape makes it ideal for use on both flat surfaces as well as curved surfaces. The foil tape is easily removed from patterns when the casting process is done.

How to Select Type, Spacers, Chase and Foil
- Type Size - Choose the Character Size "C" of type that you require.
- Number of Characters - Next make sure that the number of Characters you need will fit in to the Type Chase pocket. The Chase is the holder for the type. The standard Chase pocket length is 2-1/4". If you where to choose the 1/8" characters size you can fit 18 characters in that Chase space. You can determine this by dividing the chase pocket length by the width of each character. In this example: 2.25" / 0.125" = 18 characters.
- Spacers required - If you required 7/16" characters, you will not that when you divide the chase pocket length by the width of the character you find that 2.25" / 0.4375" = 5.14 characters. Note how the chart indicates 5 characters. To calculate the size of the blank spacer you need multiply 5 (characters) X 0.4375" = 2.1875". Now subtract that from the pocket length of 2.25"- 2.1875" = 0.625". So you will require a Blank Type spacer. In this case, it's ETB-6250
- Chase Size & Foil - Once the above selections are made you can now locate the appropriate Chase Type Holder and the correct Aluminum of Stainless Steel foil roll
- Manual or Automated - Based upon your production needs you can choose the traditional Boss Buddy or the Boss Buddy+. Give us a call and let us help you determine the best set of options that meet your short term and long term needs.
